Symonds yat kayaking

Find the perfect places to go with your kids and get out on your next adventure! All the sailing and kayaking we list are rated according to the ages they are suitable for, facilities and whether they are suitable for rainy days or best when the sun is shining. You begin near Goodrich Castle pass through Bishopswood and Lower Lydbrook and past the Courtfield Arms where you can stop for lunch if you take our ¾ day option (ask for details). After Lydbrook you will pass by the YHA and the Church at Welsh Bicknor and under the old disused railway bridge.

We offer Half Day hire, three quarter day hire, day canoe hire, day adventures, day canoe adventures, right up to four day Adventure Holidays.

Kayaking on the River Wye is the ideal way to view this stunning region including its cliffs, forests and landscape, and its wildlife. We were a large group of mixed ages (including some teenagers), species (dogs!) and mixed craft but were carefully managed and helped onto the water with little fuss. These can be avoided by exiting just prior to them at the car park landing stage on river left. We offer half day and full day guided kayaking trips on a variety of sections of the River Wye, between Glasbury to the north and Chepstow to the south where the river joins the Severn.

Thousands of canoeists navigate the rapids each year along their journey down the River Wye. Both routes take the paddlers down the stunning middle Wye Valley, with tranquil countryside the whole route. Looking for something more adventurous?

This trip is only suitable for experienced paddlers in either kayaks or man canoes and unfortunately is not suitable for small children. This is a man-made section and an exciting and interesting part of the River Wye. This online booklet is a useful guide - it should give you an idea of where you can get on and off the river. However, with a little patience, there are many other birds that you can seen here.

Goshawks can be viewed in detail, Sparrowhawks are frequent and breed in the trees in the valley as do Buzzards which can be seen from above whilst soaring.
